In Bangladesh, the majority of the population is farming, but many of the farmers belong to the poor, and creating jobs and increasing income in rural areas to improve living standards is an issue. Under such circumstances, in Grameen Euglena, in the cultivation of mung beans, which is a raw material for bean sprouts and is often eaten in Bangladesh, by communicating Japanese agricultural technology to Bangladesh farmers, we realized the cultivation of better quality mung beans in Bangladesh. Since October 2014, we have been conducting the "Mung Bean Project" with the aim of purchasing mung beans at a price higher than the market price of Bangladesh and exporting them to Japan.

PKSF has a farmer network of about 20 million people, and Euglena will increase the number of farmers who will participate in the "mung bean project" in the next three years. We plan to increase the number from the current 3,500 to about 10,000. Through this, we aim to create employment in rural areas in Bangladesh, increase farmers' income, promote the production and sales of high-quality mung beans, and expand mung bean exports to Japan.
The activity costs related to the expansion of the "Mung Bean Project" will be contributed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), a UN-related organization to which PKSF is subsidized. This is expected to be over 100 million yen in three years. Although more funds have been contributed to IFAD by the Japanese government, it is the first time for a Japanese company to actually utilize the funds of IFAD.
