"Integrated research system with industry"
About the establishment of a new research team in 2018
RIKEN
Atsumi Tech Co., Ltd.
OXIDE Corporation
Euglena Co., Ltd.
Abstract
RIKEN (RIKEN) will create three new research teams in 2018 under the "Integrated Collaborative Research System with Industry [1]" that matches R & D with people, goods, and money of companies. We have decided to install it on April 1st.
The research team was established in response to the adoption of research projects proposed by Euglena Co., Ltd., based on the recruitment of research projects for the 2018 "Integrated Collaborative Research System with Industry". Is to be done. After installation, RIKEN and the research and technology seeds of each company will be integrated, leading to practical application and commercialization, and conducting research and development aimed at solving social issues.
1. 1. Outline of new research team
The new research team will be set up at RIKEN under the initiative of the company that proposes the issues, based on the following selected issues.
(1) Outline of the research team (in alphabetical order of the proposing companies)
① "Hydrogen Energy Storage Technology Research Team" (Wako area)
(Hydrogen energy storage technology Laboratory)
Adopted project name: Development of high-performance hydrogen adsorption / storage material and study of application to solid-state batteries
Proposing company: Atsumi Tech Co., Ltd.
Research outline: We will develop a microporous hydrogen adsorption material with an extremely large specific surface area using the hydrogen storage material researched by Atsumi Tech and the world's first orientation-controlled high-order structure control material g-C3N4 owned by RIKEN. .. We will also develop high-capacity hydrogen storage materials with excellent hydrogen release characteristics by combining hydrogen adsorption materials and hydrogen storage materials.
Achievement goal: 70MPa high pressure tank can be reduced to less than half the size of the current one. In addition, we will realize a low hydrogen filling pressure and a flat type hydrogen tank in the future.
(2) "Mid-infrared laser light source research and development team" (Wako area)
(Mid-Infrared Laser Source Laboratory)
Adopted project name: Development of versatile mid-infrared light source
Proposing company: Oxide Co., Ltd.
Research outline: We will carry out practical development of a mid-infrared light source by combining the laser element technology of oxide and the research results on the generation of mid-infrared coherent light of RIKEN. Specifically, we will develop a mid-infrared laser light source that makes full use of nonlinear wavelength conversion technology. We will also carry out research and development of lasers used as excitation light sources for nonlinear wavelength conversion.
Achievement goal: We will develop a compact, lightweight, mid-infrared wavelength laser light source that can be mounted on equipment that enables various gas analysis and environmental measurement by remote sensing.
③ "Microalgae Production Control Technology Research Team" (Yokohama area)
(Microalgae Production Technology Laboratory)
Name of Adopted Project: Development of Innovative Production Intervention Technology for Increasing Biofuel Production of Microalgae
Proposing company: Euglena
Research outline: Euglena 's mass culture technology with RIKEN's gene and information analysis technology, we will develop more innovative microalgae production technology.
Achievement goal: We will develop a medium additive that improves the fat and oil productivity of useful microalgae such as Euglena.
(2) Installation period
From April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2023
2. 2. Supplementary explanation
[1] Integrated collaborative research system with industry
A system in which a company-led integrated research team (a corporate researcher is appointed as the team leader) is set up at RIKEN to work on problem solving within five years, matching the people, goods, and money of RIKEN with the company. Not only explicit knowledge (patents, treatises, etc.) but also tacit knowledge (know-how, etc.) can be transferred, and basic research results can be visibly returned to society, contributing to the new development of Japanese industrial technology. .. Since 2004, we have solicited from companies "issues aiming for practical use and commercialization by utilizing the research results of RIKEN" and selected the issues to be adopted.
