Euglena Co., Ltd. and University of Tsukuba start "Self-medication Promotion Special Research Project" as joint research
-Aiming to build new indicators and diagnostic methods for diseases using sulfur compounds-

　Euglena Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, President: Mitsuru Izumo, hereinafter Euglena Co., Ltd.) and National University Corporation Tsukuba University (President: Kyosuke Nagata, hereinafter Tsukuba University) will jointly start from Sunday, July 1, 2018. We will start "Self-Medication Promotion Special Research Project" as research.

　As Japan enters a super-aging society, "self-medication," which is the concept of managing healthy life expectancy (healthy life expectancy) on its own, is drawing attention.
　In the "Self-medication promotion special research project", we are conducting research on the repair of proteins in living organisms, which are essential elements of living organisms, and the analysis of sulfur compounds, which are indicators of the degree of oxidation, and are currently considered difficult to metabolize sulfur in living organisms. We will work on the development of measurement methods for substances and more accurate measurement methods from various samples, aiming to build new indicators and diagnostic methods for diseases using sulfur compounds.
　In addition, Euglena Co., Ltd. has been developing the "Sulfur Index Service" using the technology for comprehensive measurement and analysis of sulfur compounds, which was developed by Associate Professor Takeo Otsu of the International Industry-Academia Collaboration Headquarters of Tsukuba University from April this year. Utilizing this joint research, we will expand the availability of the "Sulfur Index Service" and promote its practical application to self-medication-related businesses.
