2014.4-2015.3
October 1, 2013 Euglena Co., Ltd. established the Bangladesh office as the first overseas base. Euglena GENKI program at schools in slums since April 2014 to improve the nutrition of local children. Euglena GENKI Program is Euglena cookies to elementary and junior high school students free of charge. The program's slogan is "Nutrition for Children around the World" and is implemented from Bangladesh.
1.First of all
Euglena GENKI program, Bangladesh's Prime Minister Hasina visited Japan in May 2014, and Japan's Prime Minister Abe also visited Bangladesh in September of the same year for the first time in 14 years. At the time of the visit of the Prime Ministers of both countries, Izumo, the president of the Company, had the opportunity to explain the program. However, since January 2015, the security situation in Bangladesh has deteriorated, and there have been occasional situations in which cookies cannot be delivered sufficiently to children due to problems with the distribution of cookies. In addition, the attendance rate of children has dropped due to the worsening political situation.
In such an environment, in fiscal 2014, we distributed about 500,000 meals to 2,000 children every day. Although the initial goal of 600,000 meals per year was not reached, many children were Euglena cookies to slum children as school lunches, and they agreed with this program. We would like to thank all those involved.
2. What is the Euglena GENKI program?
Our Euglena Euglena cookies to unfed slam elementary and junior high school children to rejuvenate Bangladeshi malnourished children.
Euglena cookies contain 59 nutrients, including vitamins, amino acids, and paromilan, plus other locally procured vitamins. Euglena cookies daily to elementary schools in the slums near Dhaka, with the goal of encouraging the children. I would like to solve the nutritional problems of children as much as possible by implementing this program.
3. How to implement the Euglena
Euglena GENKI program has been implemented at 11 schools including SUROVI, MSS, EKMATRA, and OBAT Helpers. As shown in the flow shown in Fig. 4, the Euglena headquarters Euglena powder, cookie costs, etc. to the Bangladesh office, and the local office Euglena cookies from the contractor NABISCO and makes cookies locally. The contractor NABISCO will deliver it to the school, or a member of the Bangladesh office will deliver it directly to the school. The Bangladesh office visits each school twice a week for cookie distribution, cookie distribution status check, inventory check, student exchange, and parents' exchange meeting.
This program is implemented in slums in Dhaka, and the number of children attending varies greatly. Table 1 shows the distribution destinations and the number of consignments for cookies over the past year. The plan was 600,000 meals, but due to misunderstandings in the prediction of the attendance rate of children and the political situation, only about 500,000 meals could be distributed. We will distribute 100,000 meals of missing sentences in 2015.

4. Voices from the field due to the implementation of the Euglena
One year has passed since the implementation of this Euglena GENKI program at the end of March 2015. During the year, I visited the school frequently and listened to many voices from the field. Schools that carry out this program regularly hold exchange meetings with local people and parents. This exchange is held at each school, but I was able to hear common stories wherever I went.
○ Hearing content at the exchange meeting
1st point
Euglena GENKI program, many children received 5 to 10 taka pocket money from their parents when they came to school. With this money, the children were buying food that was not very healthy from the shops and candy stores in front of the school. As a result, I was sick and sick, but the children have become healthier since the Euglena It also contributed to reducing the burden on each household.
2nd point
More and more parents who are attending the exchange meeting have heard that the children's appetite has increased since they ate the Euglena I have also heard from school teachers that the movements of children have become more active.
3rd point
According to the school teacher, the children's health condition has improved, their concentration of study has increased, and the attendance rate has increased. At the athletic meet, children have become more active in exercising. By the way, at SUROVI's school, there is a shift in class every morning, noon and evening, and especially the children in the morning often go to school without eating anything, but Euglena cookies are a substitute for breakfast. That is.

5. Effects of the Euglena
In the previous section, Euglena GENKI program, but in order to report the results of this program more quantitatively, the growth of children distributing Euglena We have been conducting a health survey. However, it is a big issue to confirm the age of children in the effect measurement.
In Japan, grades are divided according to age, but in Bangladesh, age does not matter, and even in the same grade, the ages differ by 3 or 4 years. The purpose of the survey is to compare with the average results according to the age of the child, but it is difficult to investigate the effect measurement due to the difference in age. As a result, we have decided to change the survey method so far and start a re-survey in March 2015. Nowadays, as a method of age confirmation, we carry out registration documents of government offices, school admission documents, interviews with parents, interviews with teachers, etc., strive to confirm the age accurately, and collect data for appropriate effect measurement. doing.
