GENKIプログラムの拡大、新規契約校にクッキー配布開始
【2015年5月 活動報告】
From this year, the number of sponsor companies has increased, and it has become possible to distribute Euglena This is equivalent to about 1 million meals per year, and 2,345 new children will be invited to participate in this program.
1.First of all
Since May of this year, the Euglena GENKI program has been implemented at the following schools, including new schools.
Schools such as SUROVI, MSS, OBAT Helpers, Ekmattra and BDP (Basic Development Partners), ARBAN (Association for Realisation of Basic Needs), Bauniyabad Islamia Alim Madrasah. There are currently 7 organizations that have introduced this program, and the number of schools has expanded to 19. To manage and monitor the program, the Dhaka office will have two new employees who will visit the school twice a week for monitoring. In particular, I focus on visiting new schools to understand the reactions of students, teachers, and local people. We were able to hear valuable opinions such as the fact that it is a little too much for small children to eat all, and that cookies with the same seasoning for a year will inevitably get tired. Based on these opinions, we would like to make possible improvements.
2. About the start of the project at the school of NGO ARBAN
Starting this month, we are implementing a new GENKI program for 883 children from three schools. We deliver cookies for about two weeks to the school at a time.
The teachers and clerical staff of this ARBAN school are actively cooperating with the GENKI program, and the work can proceed smoothly. Photo-1 is a photo of children gathering at the ground on the first day of cookie distribution. We handed cookies to each child.
3. About the start of the GENKI program at Bauniyabad Islamia Alim Madrasah
Bauniyabad Islamia Alim Madrasah is a school run by locals, not run by an NGO. With 354 students, it is a new target school for the GENKI program. This school focuses on studying Islamic religion in addition to regular classes. Unlike other schools, male students wear hats and female students wear scarves to hide their hair. The uniform is also pure white unlike other schools. The photo is gathering at the ground for the start of the GENKI program.
4. About the start of the project at the school of NGO / BDP
The NGO BDP operates four schools and is attended by a total of 1108 children. Again, we have started the GENKI program. Since this school does not have a ground, we hand out cookies to each classroom. This NGO school is located not only in Dhaka but also in the suburbs. JICA volunteers are also participating in the activities for BDP. Therefore, the school environment is cleaner than other schools. For example, when you enter the classroom, you need to arrange your shoes in the shoe storage area at the entrance. Again, the children were very pleased with the cookies from the GENKI program.
5. About President Izumo's school visit
In late May, President Izumo went to SUROVI's school and talked while handing cookies to each child. "Euglena for a year?" "What do you want to be in the future?"
At the end, he said, "Euglena every day, study hard, realize your dreams for the future, and come to Japan." Since I visited this school once before, many children remembered Izumo. Also, when I met a child who was very thin and unhealthy when I met him before, I was surprised and deeply moved when he saw the child becoming plump and healthy. Even in this way, I was able to realize the effect of cookie distribution.
6. Exhibiting on Social Business Day
The 6th Social Business Day, a big event in Bangladesh, was held on May 28th in Dhaka. At the Grameen Euglena * booth, we explained the GENKI program and distributed sample cookies, and members from both Japan and Bangladesh explained the GENKI program to many customers until 6 pm, the closing time. Many visitors were interested in the GENKI program.
