euglena R&D Laboratory in Tokyo University
Production Technology Laboratory
euglena Co. intends to develop 5 fields of business eventually. This is based on the idea of “5Fs of Biomass” which is to develop and produce commercial products from Food which has the highest value and commercialize into Fiber, Feed, Fertilizer, and Fuel by developing technology and reducing cost.
Currently we have commercialized euglena for cosmetics and Food, which has the highest value out of the 5Fs and we intend to commercialize the Feed and Fuel business. Also paramylon, a substance only found euglena very unique because it is insoluble in water and oil while having the capability to absorb water and oil so application in face wash and films are possibilities.
Euglena will research applications of paramylon in products other than cosmetics using these qualities.
Joint development partnerships
euglena Co. conducts various researches concerning euglena in R&D center in “Tokyo University Entrepreneur Plaza”,
a venture incubation facility in Tokyo University and production technology research center located in Ishigaki Island,
Okinawa Prefecture where euglena is being produced.
We also pursue joint research with Tokyo University, Osaka Prefecture University, Osaka Prefecture University, Kinki University and University of Hyogo. Using the research results from the joint research partner, we develop new business and production technology.
Our partnerships are not limited to Universities. We are jointly developing biojet fuel with JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation and Hitachi Ltd.. The feasibility of this business is being studied by further developing euglena cultivation technology from us, refining technology from JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation, and plant engineering technology from Hitachi Ltd...
・Research of improved euglena cultivation technology
・Research of functionality as food, cosmetics and feed
・Research of safety as food, cosmetics and feed
・Research of application of euglena for carbon capture and biofuel production
・Research of other algae from various perspectives.
euglena is conducting research with the following government subsidies
・NEDO “Project to develop next-generation bi-fuels other than ethanol”
・Adoption to the “CREST” team research recruited by JST
